The New ECO Portal — One Access Point for All ECO EPD Data

A next-generation digital access point that enables centralized retrieval of all available digital ECO EPD data. Unlike a traditional database, the ECO Portal serves as a dynamic gateway connecting all data nodes operated by ECO EPD Programme Operators (POs), offering a federated, harmonized, and up-to-date view of verified environmental product information.

The graphical data presented is refreshed automatically every hour and does not reflect real-time information. Please note that there may be a delay between actual events and their representation in this visualization.

Verified. Harmonized. Reliable.

All ECO EPDs accessible via the ECO Portal are developed in accordance with the ECO Platform Standards, which define a common framework for creating harmonized, consistent Environmental Product Declarations. Verification of the ECO EPDs remains the responsibility of the respective Programme Operators, ensuring that data quality and credibility are maintained at source.

This guarantees a level of consistency, comparability, and transparency that is essential for the growing demand for reliable environmental data in the construction and manufacturing sectors.

Access and Registration

Access to ECO EPD data via the new portal is open to all users and for basic data access, no registration is required.

Users can also apply for API access, enabling direct data integration into digital tools, databases, and platforms:

  • API access is subject to a fee for commercial tool and database operators.
  • API usage is free of charge for verified non-commercial tool applications.
  • All users must agree to the ECO Portal’s Terms & Conditions.

The online registration process may take some time and may require additional documentation, clarification, or audits as part of the approval procedure.

ECO Portal API FAQs

Funding the Digital Backbone

Until now, the ECO Portal API was offered free of charge, financed solely through membership fees. As digital demand and data volumes grow rapidly, a sustainable funding model is needed to ensure secure operation, continuous improvement, and future scalability.

A usage-based fee structure will now help cover development, maintenance, and quality enhancement costs — ensuring that those who benefit most from data access contribute to its long-term sustainability.

To encourage active involvement, the ECO Platform promotes membership for all data users. Members benefit from lower fees and early participation in the definition of future requirements. Fees for non-members are set significantly higher to reflect their limited contribution to the community-driven development of the platform.

A detailed description of user categories and fees will be given in the new Terms & Conditions and the Price List.

ECO Portal Pricing

ECO Platform offers access to its EPD Data for free and access via API under three distinct use types, each designed to support different goals and user needs. Whether you're building digital tools, sharing data, or pursuing research or education, there’s a clear path for how you can use the data.

API Access for
Database Use

ECO Platform Members:
5,000€ / year

Non-members:
10,000€ / year

Database Use” refers to any use of ECO EPDs where the EPD data is:

  • stored, indexed or displayed as part of a structured data offering, and
  • made accessible in downloadable format, either individually or in bulk, to third parties via any form of digital interface (e.g., website, portal, or API).

This includes but is not limited to platforms that allow users to search, view, and export ECO EPDs for further use outside of the platform. For the sake of this definition, it is not relevant whether the offering of such database is commercial or non-commercial, i.e. whether it is offered against any form of profit, including but not limited to subscription fees, pay-per-use models, or licensing arrangements.

API Access for
Commercial Tool Use

ECO Platform Members:
2,000€ / year

Non-members:
5,000€ / year

Commercial Tool Use” refers to any use of the ECO Portal API where the ECO EPDs are integrated into a commercial (as defined below) proprietary software tool or digital platform, and where the data is employed to perform specific functionalities for end-users, including but not limited to:

  • life cycle assessment (LCA) calculations,
  • environmental comparisons,
  • benchmarking,
  • performance reporting, or
  • other data-driven services.

A tool is deemed commercial if it offers such functionalities against any form of profit, including but not limited to subscription fees, pay-per-use models, or licensing arrangements, regardless of whether the data itself is the direct subject of the sale.
Commercial Tool Use does not include redistribution or provision of the raw ECO EPDs in downloadable format to users. Any tool providing users with access to downloadable datasets is considered a Database under these Terms.

API Access for
Non-Commercial Tool Use

*Registration required

“Non-commercial Use” refers to the use of ECO EPDs for purposes that are internal and do not involve direct or indirect financial benefit.

In order to qualify as Non-Commercial Use, the use must be formally approved by ECO Platform through an application process.

Such approval is contingent upon the submission of a comprehensive, accurate, and transparent description including, but not limited to, the intended use case, the organized and economic context, a substantiated rationale explaining why the use should be permitted free of charge.

All free-of-charge use of ECO EDP Data is subject to the following:

  • Prior approval by ECO Platform before any ECO EPDs use
  • Regular re-approval and re-application at defined intervals or upon request
  • Mandatory disclosure of any changes to the use case, submitted proactively and without delay
  • No entitlement to technical or operational support from ECO Platform
  • Allowance for processing time for the review and, if applicable, audit of the application.

ECO Platform reserves the right to decline, suspend, or revoke Non-Commercial Use status at its sole discretion if any of the above requirements are not met or if the use is deemed to conflict with the Terms and Conditions.

The following examples are provided for illustrative purposes and do not constitute an exhaustive list of Non-Commercial API/Tool-Use:

  • Manufacturers utilizing the ECO EPDs exclusively for internal purposes
  • Consultants conducting analyses with ECO EPDs, provided that neither the tool used nor the data is made available to third parties
  • Academic or educational use strictly limited to non-commercial contexts.

By retrieving data from the ECO portal, you expressly agree to our Terms & Conditions.
